School Climate Survey for Parents and Guardians

 Permanent link

The purpose of the school climate survey is to find out about two closely related issues - (1) equity and inclusive education, and (2) bullying/harassment, including discrimination, sexual harassment, and homophobia, among students at your child's (or children's) school. This information will be used by the principal and teachers to help them promote an environment of respect, safety, and belonging for all students.
Schools need to be safe and welcoming places so that students can feel comfortable enough to learn.
Please do not put your name on this survey. Your answers are confidential. We are interested in what you and other parents or guardians have to say. Your participation in this survey is strictly voluntary. By completing the survey your consent is implied.

On Thursday, May 10th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. we encourage all Westwood families to visit the school to engage in an evening of fun. Math games will be available in all classes for parents to play with their children. Other activities will be happening in the school including a book fair, selling samosas, and promoting Live Free. We look forward to seeing you at our Open House.

On Friday, May 11th Westwood will be partaking in Live Free. This is a day where students and teachers are asked to give something up for those who live without each day, and to donate a toonie or a loonie. Each student will receive a pledge card with their name and what they promise to live without for the day. Students may pledge to 'try and get along with their siblings', 'listen better in class', or to ‘give up their favourite snack'. All students participating will receive a Live Free sticker for their participation. All money raised goes directly into our Breakfast Club.

We are pleased to announce that we are extending our musical opportunities for our Junior and Intermediate students. A class set of ukuleles and student books have been ordered. Hopefully they will arrive soon so that we can begin using them this year. Mrs. Johnson is very excited to begin a unit with the ukuleles.
For our next teaching cycle our primary teachers will be focusing on asking higher level questions in math. The goal for this is to have the students deepen their understanding of math. Our Junior/Intermediate teachers will be focusing on a strategy that encourages students to explain their thought processes in writing while solving problems.
