It was certainly a great April at Ponsonby Public School. Our students have been working hard both in their classrooms and out! Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood was an amazing success, thanks to the efforts of all of the cast members, choir, and students who helped out behind the scenes. An enormous thank you to Miss Kreitzer, Mrs. Fischer and Mrs. Baguley, Mr. Ellis and the rest of the staff who generously volunteered their time for this wonderful event.

A huge thank you to School Council for organizing and running Bee Happy Bee Creative Ponsonby. It was a fabulous morning for the entire community. As well, thank you to School Council for organizing the Elmira Poultry fundraiser. Your efforts are very much appreciated!

May is always a busy month. Teachers continue to focus hard on the curriculum, while ensuring the students have many extra activities in which to participate. Our junior students will be planting trees with the Green Legacy Program, bus patrol training will take place at Ponsonby, Silver Birch readers will head to Toronto, and the Grade 6s will enjoy their camping trip!

Welcome back to Mrs. Zandbergs who returns to Ponsonby next week following her maternity leave. She will join Mrs. Perry and the grade 1-2 class, teaching on days 1, 3 and 5 (am). It’s great to have you back!

Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome at Ponsonby. It has been wonderful to be a part of this community.

Have a wonderful month.

Ab Henshaw, Acting Principal

February has been busy, here at the school. So much has gone on and the month has flown by! This month we had educational visits from a Dairy Educator and the Humane Society to supplement our students learning. These were great presentations, enjoyed by all students. As well, through our Valentine cookie sale, the Me to We Club raised over $200 to donate to the charity, "Right to Play". Mario Cart races to support the grade 5 trip to the ROM, Green Team, Floor Hockey intramurals, Grade 6 Art Club, Forest of Reading, Zumba, play practises, River Run trips, and so much more have helped to enrich the daily experiences of the students each day they are here.

snow angelPonsonby continues to be a very busy place! The students and staff are deep into the curriculum and the extra-curricular activities are numerous. As a staff, we are continuing to focus on the problem-solving model for teaching mathematics. The students are enjoying the real-world connections and working together to solve problems using efficient Math strategies. Continue to ask math related questions at home. These questions can be related to anything...cooking, money, shopping, etc.
It is hard to believe that term 1 is done and next week, report cards will be sent home. This is a great time to talk to your children and reflect on the year to date. Discuss what is going well, areas for growth, and next steps. Tell them how proud you are and set goals for term 2.

wreathOctober was a very busy and exciting month at Ponsonby Public School. Our students were involved in sports, clubs, teams, and trips, as well as many varied and interesting classroom learning opportunities. I would like to personally thank the members of our School Council and the parent community for their continued support in our school. We have dedicated parent volunteers working on our fundraising programs, hot lunch programs and helping in classrooms. Thank you to all those who came into the school this month to volunteer their time to provide unique and exciting opportunities for our students. It really makes a notable difference.
