We are entering the home stretch of the 2011-2012 school year. The next 2 months will be very busy at Palmerston Public School. It is very important for all students to keep in mind that we need to focus on our learning for just 9 more weeks.

April was an exciting month at Palmerston with students participating in recycling, tree planting, basketball, Earthkeepers, Scientist in the classroom and much more. May will be just as busy with a spirit day, humane society visit, and our grade 3 and 6 students writing EQAO. Students are actively training for track and field and eagerly awaiting school trips.

Mr. Henshaw continues to be helping out at another school in our board. In the meanwhile, Mr. Hodgins and I will be in the office. If you have any questions or concerns about our school, please feel free to contact me directly at the school.

Have a great month of May!

Spring has sprung and April is here! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and restful March Break. Regardless if you were away on holidays or home for the week, I am confident that the week was a well deserved break. Now we our entering into our final stretch of the 2011-2012 school year. April, May, and June will pass by quickly. The next few months will be filled with activities, excursions, and learning. I hope that everyone will be able to follow our current school virtue and commit to working diligently, playing hard, and finding a good balance between school and home.

Please take some time to go over this month’s newsletter with your child/children. It highlights important dates, events, and rules for our school. The creative playground is open once again and is very busy with students. Take some time to review the playground rules.
Enjoy the spring weather.

spring flowersCongratulations to our students for raising over $6770.00 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Thanks to Mrs. Verbeek and her crew for organizing this amazing fundraiser. Our intermediate students also helped raise money for Big Brothers and Big Sisters by bowling at the Mt Forest bowling lanes. Mrs. Stroeders class is running a fundraiser this Friday, March 2nd called Toonies for Tummies. Students are asked to bring in a Toonie for our Snack Bin program. It is so wonderful to see so many of our students participate in fundraisers that help other organizations. It is an important part of our Virtue training that develops the whole student.

UG2GO

UG2GO

Our board has a wonderful resource for all of our students that can be accessed 24/7 from school or from home. It’s called UG2GO and includes Learn360 (educational video streaming), Student Link (a site children use at school that gives them access to web sites that are kid friendly and relate directly to their current units of study), Tumblebooks (a site that has hundreds of books children can click on and have read to them), Noodletools ( gives children help making bibliographies), Knowledge Ontario ( a variety of approved encyclopedias, magazine articles suitable for elementary students), and much more. When students are at home they can go to the main address: https://www.ugdsb.on.ca/ug2go which will prompt them to enter the same Windows username and password that they use at school to get onto the school network. Once they enter their Windows username/password they will enter the site and they can then click on any of the resources and be taken directly to the individual resource without the need to login.

Please take a few minutes to explore the site with your child. It is an important tool that will aid them in their education, and may make your life easier when it comes to homework and projects. We are excited that students will be able to access information from anywhere and at anytime in this information age!

February is here and with it lots of snow. February is also report card time. Teachers have been busy writing report cards. Report cards go home on February 8th. Scientists in the Schools have been visiting some of our classes this month. They always bring excellent programs for our students. The theatre trip to St. Jacobs to see the production of the Wizard of Oz was very successful. We are looking at booking another trip to see a production of Annie. We will be looking at a December date. More information will follow.
