With good news travelling quickly, I’m sure it comes as no surprise that our new playground structure is now open for our students. The children have been excited and are enjoying themselves on the new equipment. On behalf of the entire school community, I would like to thank the SCA for all its efforts for making the new play structure a possibility at Maryborough!

If you have been by the school recently you would have definitely noticed how amazing our gardens are looking. Thanks to the local Guides, Brownies, Sparks and their parents, our gardens were cleaned up for the spring season. A big thank you, also, goes to the township of Mapleton for its donation of the mulch.

At the end of April, Maryborough was part of a District Review for School Improvement. On April 26, a team of Administrators, Curriculum Specialists and Superintendents came to visit the school and all of the classes. This review was to get a glimpse into what teaching and learning practices are proving effective in helping our students learn. As you can imagine the preparation for this review was a little stressful! I am pleased to report that the Maryborough staff and students (who were integral to the review), demonstrated that we have much of which to be proud!

snow angelRight before Christmas break you may have noticed our parking lot was full of police cars and fire trucks one morning! Luckily there wasn’t an emergency, it was a fantastic opportunity for our grade 6 students to “Shop with a Cop” and spend the morning buying food for the Drayton food bank.

girl in snowAs the holiday season approaches, you can definitely sense the excitement in the halls. To get the students in the holiday spirit, we were treated to an amazing Christmas Dinner put on by the SCA and numerous parent volunteers. While I always seem to mention my amazement about these meals, this truly was a sight to behold. Watching almost 200 students, teachers and invited guests walk through the serving lines was marvelous. In all honesty, hearing the students talk about how great the meal was should warm the hearts of all the parents who helped organize, cook and serve the meal. Red hollyThe new playground has been approved! This is great news as it now allows me to negotiate an installation date for the new climber. A huge thank you goes out to our SCA which has demonstrated such dedication over the past year with all of their fundraising initiatives. Thank you, also, goes out to the entire community which have been so supportive and generous. Once we get the date for installation, and the new playground has been inspected, we will have an official grand opening in the spring.
