May 2012 Newsletter

We have several events underway this month: junior bicycle rodeo, Jump Rope for Heart assembly and fundraising event, grade 6’s visiting Willow Road and having a bake sale to raise money for their trip in June. Education Week is coming shortly and our students will have the opportunity to learn Hip Hop thanks to the expertise of the Anne Marie Oliver’s School of Dance who will be coming in twice for each class. We have our Grade 6’s Junior Achievers presenting a BIG cheque for the fundraising going towards the Guelph Humane Society, followed by our very own Hip Hop dancers on May 11th.

Students are having opportunities to explore equity and diversity issues. Last week, students explored the freedoms they take for granted such as medicine and water. We are now taking a look at our own population’s diversity as we set up a map of the world to show the various languages our students speak at home.

During open house on May 10th you will be able to see a variety of displays showing our findings and more. Our School Council are looking for people to volunteer for the barbeque. I hope everyone will take advantage and sign up for 15 minutes so we can all enjoy that evening.

Willow Road Orientation

Willow Road Public School invites Parents of Grade 6 students to attend an orientation evening on Tuesday, May 29 at 7 p.m.  The orientation evening will include:

• Presentations by the Principal and Vice-Principal
• A media presentation
• Presentation by School Council
• A tour of classrooms

We hope you will join us in supporting your child’s transition to Grade. 7 at Willow Road P.S.
