May is certainly a busy month at Gateway Drive PS. We have much to look forward to: our grade 1 to 8 trip to The Sound of Music at the Drayton Theatre, the Junior Bike Rodeo and to top it all off our celebration of the Arts Spring Fling on May 31st featuring our string orchestras and other performances by Gateway students.

Please be sure to take time this month to complete the parent survey about our school. Our grades 4-8 students will also be completing a survey here at School. These surveys provide us with valuable information as we plan for the future at Gateway Drive PS.

At this time we begin to look to the next school year. For next year we need a breakfast club coordinator. Mrs. Melissa Ashwell has done an excellent job this year but needs to turn the role over to someone else. If you think you would be interested please let us know. If you are not sure come for a visit during breakfast club and you may decide this is for you. This is an important and worthwhile program at our School…let’s make sure it continues.

The month of April brings with it Spring and reminds us of nature. Our School Eco group have come up with some great ideas to mark Earth Day. At Gateway Drive PS we will have our own Earth Week. Check the calendar to see how we are marking each day.

Also this month it is time to put away our winter clothes (we hope). Our Lost and Found bins are full of many items. We will display the contents of the Lost and Found on the week of April 10th- 12th. Please remind your children to check for items they may have misplaced. Parents are also welcome to come in and have a look for misplaced items.

March is here and even though we have had a mild winter I am sure we are glad that spring is just around the corner.

What strange winter weather we’ve been having. We have had only one day so far in which students have been able to get outside and build in the snow!

If you are at the school I encourage you to take a moment to view pictures of the children playing and learning on our foyer TV screen. This screen is also used to keep everyone informed of events here at Gateway Drive PS. A big thank you to School Council who contributed funds for the television, as always this group is a great help!

It’s hard for me to believe I have been here three months and that the school year is one third of the way complete! I must once again state how welcome I have been made to feel at Gateway Drive PS. What a wonderful community to be a part of.
