GUELPH, Ontario (January 27, 2012) – The regular monthly meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board was held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. The following are highlights from the meeting.

Boundary Review process begins for new East Guelph school

GUELPH, Ontario (January 25, 2012) – The first report for a boundary review that will set the attendance area for a new JK-8 elementary school to be built on Lee Street in Guelph was received and approved by Trustees at the Board meeting on January 24. 

Boundary Review process begins for new Shelburne school

GUELPH, Ontario (January 25, 2012) – The attendance area for a new JK-8 elementary school to be built in Shelburne will be determined by a boundary review to be conducted over the next five months. Trustees of the Upper Grand District School Board voted to begin the process at their meeting on January 24.

Grade Five students create webcomics to demonstrate ways to save energy

GUELPH, Ontario (January 23, 2012) -- Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. is challenging students in Grade Five classrooms in 35 schools in Guelph and Rockwood, Ontario, to create original Bitstrips comics to demonstrate how to conserve electricity in their homes and schools.

Edward Johnson Boundary Review nearing decision

GUELPH, Ontario (January 19, 2012) -- Ratification of the decision on a new boundary affecting French Immersion (FI) students who attend Guelph’s Edward Johnson Public School is slated for Tuesday January 24 at the regular monthly meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board.

IODE brings joy of reading to Priory Park P.S.

GUELPH, Ontario (December 16, 2011) -- Each of the 57 kindergarten students at Paisley Road P.S. received a special gift on Wednesday, when eight women representing the IODE Captain Frederick Bond Chapter presented the children with individualized books to take home. Each book was on a theme or topic of interest to the student receiving it, and inside each cover was a personalized label.

Borden and Bailey to lead board

GUELPH, Ontario (December 7, 2011) – Bob Borden, the trustee representing the town of Orangeville, was acclaimed for an eighth term as Chair of the Upper Grand District School Board during the Annual Organizational meeting held Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Mark Bailey, trustee for Guelph Wards 1 and 5, was elected as Vice-chair. The positions are for a one-year term ending November 30, 2012.

Superintendent of Education appointed

GUELPH, Ontario (December 7, 2011) – Bonnie Talbot, an educator with 22 years of experience in the Upper Grand District School Board and former Dufferin County Board of Education, has been appointed as Superintendent of Schools effective February 1, 2012. She replaces Superintendent Rosemary Fyfe, who retires January 31, 2012.

Trustees vote to proceed with Edward Johnson P.S. Boundary Review

GUELPH, Ontario (November 23, 2011) – Trustees on the Upper Grand District School Board have directed staff to proceed with a boundary review for Edward Johnson Public School. Enrolment projections indicate the JK-6 French Immersion school will be 300 students over capacity when Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) is implemented at the school in September 2013.
