| What is the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test? | ||
| - A standardized test written by all Ontario high school students as part of their high school graduation requirements | ||
| What is the Literacy Test based on? | ||
| - The expectations for literacy (reading and writing) across all subjects in The Ontario Curriculum up to the end of Grade 9. | ||
| When do students write the Literacy test? | ||
| - Students normally write the Literacy Test in their grade 10 year. The date for this year’s exam is Thursday, April 2, 2009 - Students in grade 9 who want to get a head start on Literacy test preparation are also welcome to take the Smart Start course. |

| What is the Smart Start Programme? | ||
Smart Start is a free course offered at each Upper Grand high school to help prepare students for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. Taught by experienced teachers, it takes students through exercises and lessons that cover all components of the literacy test. Students who have completed the course in the past have felt more prepared and more at ease as they take the test. Please see below the attached registration form and parent information sheet for further information. |
